Sunday – 25 km
Monday – Cardio Class
Tuesday – One intense conditioning class – I am trying to get more leg conditioning in ie. simulating hills but tons of lunges, squats and plyo when I teach
Wednesday and Thursday – see above I have a new gig at Elements
Friday – 5 miles fast (actually I tried to run your Boston Marathon pace Katie ouch!!) on treadmill
Saturday – 25k (slower pace)
Sunday – off
Monday – 25k (faster trying to catch Tina pace)
Tina is doing the Scotia full marathon this weekend – she is ready – I intend to do the half as training.
Around the Bay 30K – March 2010 What pace Katie?
Boston Marathon 42K – April 2010
Joe’s Team Tri July 2010 – need to get cycling and swimming in there somewhere….
Toronto Marathon October 2010 – 3:45 time…?!
Hi Katie – I am sorry again I have been out of touch. I would like to be a guinea pig if you will still have me. I can run Wednesday and Friday mornings as well as Saturday AND Sunday – on occasion just one of these.
As of January I will be teaching at the college on Tuesday and Fridays….so I can run Thursday morning….also/or train. I might take on a few classes at a club to make up for the shortfall in cash with a few less hours at the college – but perhaps I can ensure one is conditioning and one cardio.
Let me know what you recommend. I am in Boston and I am putting my name in the lottery again for New York…I mis-read an email from the event organizer and I thought I was all set for 2010….I need to take my chances again…my error I guess….are you doing this one also?
Dear Running Friends – The half was in support of Tracy so not listed as a goal…but it was fun and yes, I learn something everytime….This time I learned that every race is different. I also learned that the final 2k are always a challenge no matter what distance one is doing, 42, 21 or 2! I also also learned that I need to learn how to race not just run.
Alanis – almost an inspiring as Sir Edmund – did NYM in 4.5!
First goal – make a goal of doing an official goal list! Deadline – this week.
Hi Katie – thanks for all the terrific words of encouragement. OK I am absolutely in for Boston…I mean I see that you will be dragging me along how can I miss that chance?
We did the Hamilton Road To Hope today – Karen and I went along really as bunnies/athletic supporters of sorts….as Tracy Schantz wanted to finally drop that final few seconds past 1:44 in the half and slide into New York. Long story short – she ran really well again – but misread her watch and didn’t push – someone actually said she had “great hair” at the end as she came smiling across the finish line thinking she nailed it. Anyway, she was reading 1:42…and actually did 1:44:33 – I feel so badly for her. It was also a hard race to gauge your pace at all as there was not split clocks or pace bunnies…you had to rely on your watch. The course was fine and flat – but as there were few spectators and no music – I decided it was the only two hours of the week when I am not talking….I have to actually think….you know how much I hate that.
I do think doing these things are great though as I am slowly learning what I can do on my own and what my pace is….it still seems consistent – 5:05/km today for the half…but I hope if I keep at it with your direction – I will learn what I have in the tank and how to push a little….
I will also ensure that I plan my teaching next spring so I do NOT have to teach much the week before…I am sure that has an impact.
Karen did really well! But I should not be stealing her thunder – she will likely connect with you.
I promise I will be more diligent looking at the site to find out what is next.
Thanks for your amazing encouragement….I am enjoying your site much!
I hope that you had a great weekend! Did you run with Karen yesterday? Have you decided to do the half marathon in Hamilton? If so take it easy. It is supposed to take a month to recover from a marathon. I have only been swimming since.
This week won’t be too hard as you are still recovering. Try to do a tempo run of about 8k. I have told Karen to go to the track and do 3×1000 metres at race pace with a two minute rest between each. You probably shouldn’t do this but you can go and run with her. Do a 5k run at an easy pace. No more running than this needed.
You should go and get a massage or go for a swim to be nice to your body!
Thanks Judy for your kind comments and I loved the fireworks Katie!
It didn’t feel as bad as I anticipated…OK the last two k felt worse than I thought and there was much swearing and questioning my sanity under my breath….but otherwise I am very happy that Katie (and you and Karen!) encouraged and helped get to the start line.
One of my favourite expressions, “Half of life is just showing up!”
Keep showing up ladies…I will now set some more goals as you have and a goal of showing up for those too!
Hi Judy and Katie – yes, I know what marathon I am running…I am doing it is (eeek) this weekend. T.O. Goodlife Marathon.
I did about 10 miles this a.m. – the first 25 minutes with Karen and the last 8 miles with a couple of Susan Devine’s group – just a couple of us are in town. I am thinking that will be my last run this week – except for a few short ones Wed. and/or Friday?
When I see Judy and Karen’s goals I realize that I should definitely elaborate on these and set some longer term goals. I do trust that I will be able to complete this marathon…my silly ego is of course getting in the way as I want to do it in a respectable time. On one pace calculator it suggests that you take your 10 km time and multiple it by 5 – if I take my first split at Scotia then I am good – my second split….uhhh not so much. As Karen suggested, as long as my brain holds up – I hope to be able to do this….
I decided I will just think of it as one hurdle. By planning other races in the spring….and perhaps New York next year….I will keep looking positively forward.

hey Judi,
That last comment was from me! I was doing some work on the site and I was logged on as Katie and I forgot to log off before I commented.
Good Luck this weekend Judi. I’ll be rootin’ for ya!
